About
Our Winery
Crow Haven Winery is a passion project of father-son duo Paul and Maxx located in Bothell, Washington. With small-batch production and a mentality of quality over quantity, we oversee every step from vineyard to bottle. With grapes sourced from Washington’s Yakima Valley, each sip reflects our meticulous attention to detail and dedication to crafting exceptional wines. Crow Haven Winery is more than just a winery—it’s a labor of love, producing unforgettable experiences in every bottle.
Our Fruit
Washington’s finest grapes. The relatively new Rattlesnake Hills AVA was established in 2006 and is within the Yakima Valley AVA, which is in turn contained within the larger Columbia Valley AVA. The Columbia Valley is known for producing high quality Riesling, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, among other varieties. The Rattlesnake Hills’ distinctive characteristics include its high elevation in comparison to the surrounding area, ranging from 850 to 3,085 feet, making it the highest point in the Yakima Valley AVA. Grapes grown at higher elevations are exposed to higher levels of solar radiation, which is shown to enhance ripeness and result in thicker skins. The soil types vary depending on elevation and can be fertile from the Missoula flood or mineral-rich from volcanic soil. This unique terroir and climate contribute to greater complexity and flavors during the fermentation process in our red wine and are beneficial to varieties such as Riesling.
Our Wines
Washington has a vibrant wine and agriculture environment. We specifically sourced our Riesling grapes from the Rattlesnake Hills AVA because of the cooler temperatures and climate. We produced a dry Riesling with delightful aromas and hints of lime, lemon, and green apple. Our Malbec, also sourced from this region, gives off red fruit aromas and flavors such as sweet cherries, red currants, and raspberries which can be attributed in part due to the elevation and in part to the soil.
Cheers! Paul and Maxx
Maxx McGoff
Winemaker – Son
Maxx has been interested in flavors and aromas since childhood. His love for wine began at fourteen when he tried a sweet Riesling and watched the movie “Sideways”. He pursued winemaking in high school and continued to earn a BS in Viticulture and Enology from Washington State University in 2015. Maxx gained several experiences at wineries in Washington and California before working in wine-tasting rooms in Woodinville. Now, he and his dad Paul are focused on their passion project, Crow Haven Winery.
Paul McGoff
Owner – Father
Paul, a passionate scientist, holds an MS in Chemistry from The University of Vermont. He is also a hobby gardener. He earned a certificate in winemaking from Washington State University after moving to Seattle in 2004. Following retirement from a senior director position in quality control, Paul teamed up with his son Maxx to start Crow Haven Winery.
